Using amps and amp simulators? This is for you.
This is a custom junction (one-off custom build) we did for Darrin. It allows him to use his amp simulator (Friedman IR-X) or his real tube amp (in 4cm or straight to the front).
Darrin can now leave his IR-X plugged in (on his board) at all times. Whenever he plugs in his tube amp, the Friedman is automatically taken out of the signal chain.
It's that easy.

    • @GoodwoodAudio

      fair call! I see that now... You need to be running multiple amps (usually means a pedalboard) to get ground loops, but I agree...that could have been more clear. I recently wrote a blog on all the main ways noise gets introduced into a guitar rig if that helps! goodwoodaudio.com/blogs/news/fix-your-noisy-pedalboard-once-and-for-all

      I think you'd struggle to make use of the pedals under LIFT if you need access to them. Also - since the lite is so small, I'd be curious if the whole board would tip back when LIFT is up... Never tried it on a board this small. I don't want to not sell our gear, but also want you to love it... and these are some of the issues you might come across!

      I don't know of any worth mentioning... none that I would trust at least. There are some workarounds but the best ways would require expression being connected to a midi controller and then your midi controller talking to pedals on your board.

  • @paulg1897
    @paulg1897 7 дней назад

    I think it should be mentioned, that for this to work, you need a cable from the SEND (side output) to your desk. That will be the dry mono signal. The main outs L/R to the desk will be the stereo effects.

      so long as that Midi controller can send PC's and CC's on a specific midi channel, yes. Some midi controllers dont' give you much flexibility here, but a lot will. I am a little confused about the demo since i do see what it seems to be an IO interface underneath the board under the H9, but I thought the switcher has in and out buffers. So were you double buffering on the video? Were the buffers from the switcher not in use? Also the way the volume pedal was hooked up to the board. Was vol pedal hooked up as a vol pedal as an Expression and all volume control was done inside the switcher itself? Thanks!

    • @GoodwoodAudio
      @GoodwoodAudio 9 дней назад

      I just used the pedalboards D socket inputs as a patch bay. No extra interface. Under the board there is an RC booster though being used as an EQ / tone shaper. BUffers on the Switchboard were being used, yes. Vol connects to the switchboard expression input and controls an internal volume pot on the switchboard. Your explanation was pretty spot on. You can use the expression pedal as a volume and/or as an expression pedal over midi.

    • @GoodwoodAudio
      @GoodwoodAudio 9 дней назад

      it's possible... but totally depends on the rest of your rig / settings on the pedals / how its wired. I'd start troubleshooting by plugging guitar straight into delay and delay L / R out to your amps. See if you can get that to work. If NO your amps might be out of phase. Try sending your delay into a DAW where phase shouldn't be an issue... if it works there, then your amps are the problem. If it doesn't work there you might not have a stereo delay setting turned on. If YES (it does work when it's just guitar, delay, amps) add one pedal into your chain at a time and see when they cancel out again.

    Is it possible to have certain frequencies that still cause phase issues even if the two amps are in phase, particularly with high gain tones? Im running a dual amp setup, one real amp and one digital model on an hx stomp. Both are going into the stomp to use impulse responses. Im able to flip the phase in the hx stomp. If i check by having both run up the center you can still hear what seems to be phase issues. Then when you pan hard left and right it sounds good but still sounds like it maybe slightly out of phase.

    • @GoodwoodAudio
      @GoodwoodAudio Месяц назад

      what is more likely is they are not perfectly 180 degrees out... which is also VERY common... but if something is 90degrees out as an example... flipping phase / inverting polarity isn't going to fix anything. You'll still be 90degrees out of phase. With standard guitar gear, the 'fix' for this is not easy. you'd need to be able shift the phase by 90degrees rather than flip polarity by 180 with a transformer or an opamp.

    When your ep3 booster goes into a really clean amp it doesn't do much but add some treble. in this situation that treble boost basically works like a 10 khz eq being turned up on a console/DAW. This will of course affect the sound of your fx. in mixing consoles it is akin to adding treble to the channel before the send OR after the fx on the bus.

    I was hoping you were going to go more into the phase cancellation thing in this video. I have heard that some stereo pedals have one of the output signals phase-inverted (my ancient Ibanez digital chorus even labels the second output as “INV” instead of “B” or “Right”), but some stereo pedals do not invert the second output. But I’d like to know the “why”. Why do some pedals invert the phase of one channel, if it makes summing a problem? Conversely, why don’t all stereo pedals have an inverted second channel if there is some advantage or necessity to doing so? Also, questions like: If I run two stereo pedals that both invert the phase on the second channel, that should cancel the phase cancellation, so that they can be summed to mono without issue, no? So many questions.

    • @GoodwoodAudio
      @GoodwoodAudio Месяц назад

      it's a huge topic. on a chorus pedal you might see this since phase is an essential part of chorus... but you wouldn't typically see this on a delay / verb. It would cause all sorts of issues when running stereo amps (that would now be out of phase with eachother.)

  • @darwinsaye
    @darwinsaye Месяц назад

    Is this really such a big deal? Just use the reverb into only one of the amps. The whole point of stereo is to have something different happening on one side than what is happening on the other side. Reverb only going into one amp isn’t going to sound bad - it’s just like doing a wet dry setup - plus, with all the other effects going to both amps, it’s not like the amp not getting reverb is going to sound stark and dry. Personally, I would just put the reverb before the stereo effects though. I think it’s ridiculous that most people think you cannot put delay or reverb anywhere except last in your chain.

      @@GoodwoodAudio still having trouble setting up the Boss RE202 Space Echo with the switchboard. Is there an easy way to get the switcher to change presets on the RE202? The Boss manual is so confusing for a noob 😅😭

    Can it create a parallel signal path?

      by using the sends only (for each loop) it can act as a splitter, but it doesn't act as a line mixer as well, you'd need a separate line mixer.

    Boost at the end. No question. You already have your gain pedals set, if you're using more than one. If you're running clean, then yeah, guitar into boost.

    My favourite go-to setup these days is using two amps, with different voicings, but not separated into a stereo field. So the two amps are either directly side by side, or even stacked one on the other. Then if I apply a mild panning between the two channels, there is a gentle modulation effect, but without the sea-sickening hard right/left thing of full stereo setups. My inspiration for this setup was stereo amps like Magnatones and also Leslie speakers, where the sounds are still coming from one central point rather than from two different corners of a room. Particularly for stereo Leslie effect pedals, I find putting the two amps side by side, and angled about 45 degrees away from each other, gives a more accurate representation of what a Leslie speaker does, throwing the sounds out from a single point into different directions in the room, rather than having the sounds coming at you from two different points in the room.

    MIDI! Sweet! Any thought of extending that capability to an Audition v2?

    If my compressor is always on, do I have to take up one of the loops with the compressor... or can I simply go: guitar > tuner > compressor > Fender switcher (connected to 5 pedals)?

    question how are you powering so many pedals? are you chain 2 power supplies together? if so how are you doing it, i’ve just run out of slots on my supply and i have more pedals and don’t know what to do

      Pretty sure he’s running one strymon Zumma and two strymon oja or something like that but they have dedicated extension packs and that’s how he connects all three, they are pricy though but very good wuality

      @@GoodwoodAudio I can tell you, that the modulation effects sound AMAZING on stereo!🤤👌🏻 It might take a while to dial up, but the end result is truely worth it!👍🏻 On my setup I use 2xMarshall DBS 7400 heads and 2xMarshall DBS 7412 cabs.😅😎💪🏻
